Why I Love My Job

The Halbert Hargrove culture aligns perfectly with my personal values: A principles-centered approach—simply doing the right thing for the right reasons AND treating clients and fellow employees as I would wish to be treated. Collaborating with clients in the fearless pursuit of well-lived todays and tomorrows to secure the lifestyle they desire for their entire lifetime is liberating for their families, and very gratifying for me personally.

David L. Overton Family

David is a Regional Director in Halbert Hargrove’s Denver office. He joined HH in 1999.

David serves as a wealth advisor to individuals and families. He sees his role as helping his clients “to identify what truly matters to them and their loved ones and guiding them to make good choices to secure their future—so they may enjoy their success and share it with others.” A second key focus of David’s expertise is providing investment advisory services to pension and profit-sharing plans, and charitable foundations.

After beginning his financial career as a marketing consultant for Founder’s Mutual Funds in 1990, David ran the Denver office of an independent asset management firm as Executive Vice President. In 1997, he established his own Registered Investment Advisory firm. His prior background includes 14 years of sales, marketing and management experience with Xerox, ROLM Corporation and IBM.

David received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Central Missouri State University in 1972. He was awarded the ACCREDITED INVESTMENT FIDUCIARY™ designation by the University of Pittsburgh-affiliated Center for Fiduciary Studies. He is the former regional representative for the Xerox Alumni Association and has been a member of the Colorado Golden Buffalo Scholarship Foundation for over 35 years. His extensive involvement with his community includes working with and supporting youth activities and disadvantaged children.

David was raised on a small farm in Missouri, where he learned “classic Midwest values.” He’s been married to Susie for more than 30 years, and is proud of their son Derrik, a 2013 CU graduate. Among his favorite pursuits outside of work is spending time with friends and family in the beautiful state of Colorado and traveling to other interesting places around the world.

Fun Fact

My lifelong dream of playing Major League Baseball ended when I left my college baseball team to spend more time with my high school sweetheart. Of course, she dumped me a few months later and I was thrust into the working world. It all turned out for the best!
